Description

A pair of semi-detached houses dating to circa 1840/50, built of stucco and situated on the west side of Vernon Square. The houses are three storeys high with a basement, and feature flanking pilaster strips and a plinth. The central section of the first floor projects slightly. There are three windows on each upper floor, with the centre window on the second floor located above a blind window. The second floor and basement have recessed sash windows, with some original glazing bars surviving. One window to the right has a two-light casement with marginal glazing. The ground and first floors each have superimposed, flat-fronted bow windows of three lights, with pilasters extending down into aprons. The entrances are paired, featuring recessed modern doors and rectangular fanlights. The door recesses are flanked by Doric pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice which extends forward to the bow windows. A central flight of six steps leads up to the entrances, with iron balustrades scrolled at the base. The houses are part of a group with numbers 4 to 9.
