Description

Number 7, Vernon Square is a house dating to around 1840 to 1850, situated on the west side of the square. It is a two-storey building with a semi-basement, and is characterised by pilaster strips running down its facade. The exterior is stuccoed with rendered quoins and a plinth, and a sill course runs along the first floor. The basement has casement windows. The roof is of low pitch, covered in slate, with projecting eaves.

The front of the building has four windows, with two arranged in a bow on the south side. The upper windows are sash windows without glazing bars, except for those in the basement. All windows have architrave surrounds and block sills. A blind window is positioned above the doorway on the first floor. The recessed front door has panelled detailing and a semi-circular fanlight. A rendered porch has been built out, featuring a barrel-vaulted roof covered in leadwork. The porch has later double panelled doors and a semi-circular fanlight with radial glazing bars, flanked by pilasters with incised panels showing a Greek key pattern, topped by an architrave. Steps lead to the front door, with rendered parapets on capped piers.

The building forms a group with numbers 4 to 9 on Vernon Square.
