Description

Vernon House, circa 1830, is a three-storey building originally known as Vernon Lodge and located facing north down Vernon Square. It has been subdivided into flats. The building is stuccoed and consists of a central block with two recessed wings. The central portion features flanking pilasters and a stringcourse above the first floor. The centre window bay projects slightly, topped with a pediment, and incorporates a semi-circular portico with four fluted columns, lights with pilasters between, a cornice, and a parapet. Other windows are set within moulded surrounds, with the first-floor windows having architraves. The west wing has a stringcourse above the second floor. The original glazing bars remain intact. A further curved bay containing the staircase is present on the garden front.
