Description
No. 6 Vernon Square is a villa built around 1840 to 1850. It has two storeys and a high semi-basement, constructed from stone rubble with rendered quoins, a plinth, and a first-floor sill course. The roof is a low-pitched hipped slate roof with projecting eaves. The building features four windows, two of which are in a bow that runs the height of the building to the south. These windows are recessed, sash style, without glazing bars except in the basement, and have plain rendered surrounds with block sills. Above the doorway, there is a narrow round-headed window.
The door itself is recessed and panelled, topped with a semi-circular fanlight. It is flanked by Doric pilasters with incised panels. The porch is rendered and built out with a barrel vault leaded roof. The outer double panelled doors, which are later additions, are also recessed and have a semi-circular fanlight with radial glazing bars. The pilasters beside the doors feature incised panels with a Greek Key pattern, and there is an architrave above. A flight of ten steps leads up to the entrance, flanked by rendered parapets and capped piers.
Nos. 4 to 9 Vernon Square form a group with this building.
