Description

14 and 16 George Street are semi-detached houses built around 1840, originally designed as one residence. They stand three storeys tall and are constructed from coursed stone that imitates brick. The ground and first floors feature rusticated stucco quoins, while the ground floor is finished with banded rustication. A stucco parapet cornice and frieze adorn the top, flanked by panelled piers on scrolled brackets with rounded caps.

The second floor has two recessed sash windows, one of which is tripartite with later glazing bars, and both have block sills supported by consoles and plain stucco surrounds. The first floor features a tripartite window similar to the second floor, but it includes a frieze and a dentil cornice. The consoles supporting the sill are larger, with a panel in between. There is a flat-fronted bow window with three lights, also with later glazing bars, where the pilasters curve down into a panelled apron. This window has a plinth, a frieze, and a dentil cornice that slightly breaks forward at the center.

On the ground floor, there is one arcaded window with three lights, a sash with later glazing bars, and a block sill on consoles, alongside a round-headed window featuring a keystone. The entrances are round-headed with panelled doors and semi-circular fanlights. Nos 10 to 20 (even) form a group with these houses.
