Description
47 George Street is a building dating from around 1840. It stands four storeys tall and is faced in stucco, with a roof that is hidden by a parapet featuring a moulded cornice and frieze. The ground floor has a cornice as well.
On the third floor, there is a blind, recessed tripartite window with pilasters and a block sill. The first and second floors feature super-imposed flat fronted bow windows, each with three sash lights and later glazing bars. The pilasters extend down to the base of the panelled aprons, and the friezes and cornices project slightly forward. The ground floor window is recessed, a sash type with later glazing bars and a block sill.
The entrance consists of a recessed door with four moulded panels and a rectangular fanlight, flanked by Tuscan pilasters. On the north side of the third floor, there is another recessed sash window with glazing bars and a block sill.
This building, along with Nos 25, 27, 45, and 47, forms a group.
