Description

Numbers 8 and 9 Powis Villas are a pair of semi-detached houses dating from around 1840. They are constructed of stucco with slate roofs. The houses are two storeys high with a basement, and have a two-and-a-half-window arrangement, sharing a central, blank window. The entrance is located in the outer bay, set back, and features a flat arch with an overlight. All windows are flat-arched; there are canted bays to the basement and ground floor. The ground floor windows are divided by pilasters with stepped capitals, and have window-guards. Chamfered long and short quoins are present to both outer angles. A bracketed eaves cornice runs along the top, and the roof is hipped, with a stack to the party wall. Number 8 has an additional canted bay to the ground floor on its return. The interior has not been inspected. Dwarf garden walls remain, retaining moulded coping at Number 9. Square corniced gate piers, rusticated on Number 8, are also present. The appearance of these houses matches that of numbers 6 and 7 Powis Villas on the north side of Powis Grove.
