Description
This is a seafront shelter located on King's Esplanade in Hove, built in the mid-19th century and later reseated and restored in the late 20th century. It was constructed by Hove Corporation and features a cast-iron structure with glazed panels. The design includes angular U-shaped ends leading to a central spine. The shelter is a single storey with a flat roof that is concealed behind a parapet, which is decorated with quatrefoil designs and topped with ball finials. It has a decorative cornice and deep overhanging eaves supported by shaped brackets that spring from cast iron columns. The dado panels are adorned with relief decorations in the form of a ship, symbolizing Hove. Between the columns, there are mullions that support frosted glass panels, and the shelter contains late 20th-century slatted benches.
