Description
The retaining wall to the south side of the gardens in front of Adelaide Crescent was built around 1830 and designed by Decimus Burton. It features a cement render over brick and stands approximately 2 meters high in the center, with the road ramped up on either side until the wall reaches about 75 centimeters in height. The wall is about 90 meters long and showcases vermiculated rustication. It is supported by 14 square piers, which are decorated with bands of ashlar and vermiculation, featuring an upper band that is fluted, molded caps with a segmental pediment, and an Etruscan stylized palmette in the tympanum. This structure is part of the original layout of Adelaide Crescent.
