Description

This house, now converted into flats, was built around 1878. It is constructed of yellow stock brick with moulded brick and stone dressings, and has bitumen-covered slate roofs and tall brick stacks with corbelled coping. The house is double-fronted and stands three storeys high plus an attic, over a basement, with a three-bay central section flanked by one-bay wings. It features full-height canted bays on either side of the entrance. The sash windows lack glazing bars and have cills carried on shaped brackets. The ground floor windows have depressed 4-centre arches, and the attic windows have similar arches. Gabled dormers are located centrally and to the left. A patterned frieze is on the left side, and a dogtooth moulded cornice extends to the right. The second-floor windows have lugged corners. A pair of narrow windows are in the central bay, and the first floor includes a balcony above the central bay, accessed from the first floor via a pair of windows, and featuring a monopitch slate roof, cast-iron columns, a cornice, and balustrading. The columns rise from ground level and are linked by an entablature to the ground floor windows. The entrance has columns set within the architrave and is topped with a shaped fanlight, sidelights, and double doors with inserted lights, approached by a short flight of steps with a low brick wall.
