Description
This is a house, built between 1900 and 1903 and designed by A. Faulkner, with William Willett as the builder. It is now divided into flats and is built in a Surrey vernacular style. The exterior is red brick, with the attic and first floor clad in tile. The steeply pitched clay tile roof has overhanging eaves, bargeboards, and tall brick stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with a short projecting entrance range on the right.
The house has two storeys and an attic, with a two-bay, one-bay, two-bay facade. It features mullioned windows with multiple panes, and casements. Gables are present on the two bays to the left. A large gable covers the two-bay entrance range to the right. The gable ends contain three-light windows. A flat-roofed dormer is on the left return of the entrance wing. On the first floor, there's a two-storey canted bay in the second bay from the left. The second bay from the right features a continuous hoodmould over three windows, with panels between the end bays, providing access to a balcony on the canted bay next to the entrance. A further canted bay is located in the end bay to the left. A round-arched head leads to a recessed porch, featuring an original arch head door with stained glass lights. The house is part of a noteworthy group with numbers 9 to 11 on Grand Avenue.
