Description

Sixteen lamp posts dating from the late 19th century stand on Brunswick Square, Hove. They are constructed of cast-iron and were manufactured by J. Every of Lewes. Each post features a square plinth chamfered to an octagonal shape, with a ribbed surface decoration. Above this sits a slender shaft formed of clustered columns, topped with a calyx capital. The design includes a swan neck support for the original light fitting’s shade. Electricity was introduced to Hove between 1892 and 1893. The lamp posts are included in the listing for their contribution to the group value of the area.
