Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Lower Market Street are a pair of semi-detached houses built between 1830 and 1840, which were restored in the late 20th century. They feature a stucco exterior over brick and have roofs that are concealed behind a parapet, with a large central rendered chimney stack. The houses are single fronted and positioned directly on the road. They rise three storeys above a basement, with each house having a one-window frontage. The moulded parapet is complemented by six-pane sash windows on the second floor, twelve-pane sash windows on the first floor beneath a moulded entablature, and sixteen-pane windows on the ground floor with a keystone. The plinth is interrupted by the heads of basement lights that have iron grills. Each house has square-headed doorways located in the outer bays, topped with rectangular fanlights. This property is part of the Brunswick estate.
