Description

31 Western Street is a terraced house built in the early 19th century. It features a stucco exterior with a roof that is obscured by a parapet. The building has three storeys over a basement, with a one-window range facing Western Street and a two-window range facing Norfolk Street. The entrance is located on the corner and is chamfered in plan.

On the Western Street side, there is a ground-floor bay window with a bracketed wooden structure, originally a shopfront, consisting of four panes by seven panes. Above this, there is a canted bay with a wooden balcony that has cast-iron railings. The second floor has one flat-arched window with original 2/4 sash design.

On the Norfolk Street side, there is a segmental-arched entrance to the east and a smaller bracketed wooden bay on the ground floor with three panes by six panes. The eastern windows on the first and second floors are flat-arched with original 2/4 sashes, while the western windows are blank. The building also features a moulded cornice and parapet, and there is a side stack shared with No. 32, which is not included in this listing. The ground-floor bays, canted bay, and wooden balcony on the first floor in Western Street appear to have been renewed. The interior has not been inspected.
