Description

These are a pair of semi-detached villas built between 1830 and 1832, with alterations to the windows in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. Designed by C.A. Busby, they are constructed of stucco over a rubble and brick core, with a hipped slate roof and boarded, overhanging eaves. The villas are three storeys high, with a basement level, and have a 1:3:3:1 bay arrangement. They feature a double bow front, with entrances in the outer bays. The lower ground floors are rusticated, and the facades are divided by flat string courses. The windows are sash windows, without glazing bars, except for the first floor of number 17, which has marginal glazing bars. Continuous canopy hoods extend over the first-floor French casement windows (which are fixed lights in number 19), supported by cast-iron brackets and with renewed balconies. Pilaster porches with bottle balustrades lead to the entrances, which have rectangular fanlights and eight-panel doors. Number 19 has a long north-facing return wall which adjoins numbers 1 and 3 Lansdowne Square.
