Description
This is a seafront shelter located on King's Esplanade in Hove, built in the mid-19th century and later reseated and restored in the late 20th century by Hove Corporation. The shelter is made of painted cast iron and features glazed panels. Its design includes angular U-shaped ends that connect to a central spine. It is a single-storey structure with a flat roof that is concealed behind a parapet, which is decorated with quatrefoil designs and topped with ball finials. The deep overhanging eaves are supported by shaped brackets that spring from cast-iron columns. The dado panels feature relief decorations depicting a ship, which is a symbol of Hove. Between the columns, mullions support frosted glass panels, and there are slatted benches added in the late 20th century.
