Description
Numbers 8 and 9 are terraced houses located on the west side of Lower Rock Gardens in Brighton, dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of stucco and feature a roof that is obscured by a parapet. The buildings rise three storeys above a basement and each house has four windows. The flat-arched entries are framed by Tuscan pilasters and an entablature, with banded rustication on the ground floor. On either side of both entries, there are full-height segmental bays with a two-window range. All windows are flat-arched, with those on the first floor featuring cornices and console brackets. There are sill bands on the first and second floors, an entablature, and a blocking course above. Stacks are located at the party walls. The properties have cast-iron railings for the stairs and area, and No. 9 has cast-iron window guards on the first and second floor windows. The interior has not been inspected.
