Description

Numbers 19 and 21 are terraced houses located on Roundhill Crescent in Brighton, built around 1865. The exterior features stucco scored to resemble ashlar, with a roof of tiles on No.1, while the roofs of the other houses are obscured by a parapet.

The buildings rise three storeys above a basement, each with three windows. They are designed with full-height pilasters that are rusticated at the ground floor and have two blocks at the cornice level. There are steps leading up to a round-arched entrance that includes a moulded archivolt, a fanlight, and a panelled door. A springing band connects the entrance archivolt to those over the two round-arched ground-floor windows, which also feature panelled aprons. The first- and second-floor windows are flat-arched with moulded architraves. A bracketed balcony with a cast-iron balustrade of scrolling foliage is present on the first floor, while the second floor has small bracketed sills with cast-iron window-guards. The buildings have a cornice and parapet, with stacks on the party walls, and corniced gate piers leading to the steps. The area is enclosed by cast-iron railings topped with spearhead finials.

Distinctive features include a two-storey side porch at No.19, which has a round-arched entrance with an architrave and springing band, and three windows on the ground floor. However, No.19 has lost its mouldings on the first and second-floor windows and lacks window-guards on the second floor. No.21 does not have a panelled door, and it retains mouldings on the first and second-floor windows, but also lacks window-guards on the second floor. The interior has not been inspected.
