Description

Numbers 69 and 71 are a pair of terraced houses dating from around 1865. They are constructed of stucco scored to resemble ashlar, with a low parapet concealing the roof. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement level, and each has three windows. Full-height pilasters divide the houses, with rusticated detailing at ground floor level and two blocks at cornice level; the lower block is bracketed, though not on Number 71. Steps lead to round-arched entrances, featuring moulded architraves, fanlights, and panelled doors, with a springing band linking the archivolt to the round-arched ground-floor windows, which also have panelled aprons. The first and second floor windows have flat arches with moulded architraves. A bracketed balcony with a cast-iron balustrade of scrolling foliage is located on the first floor. The second-floor windows feature small bracketed sills with cast-iron window-guards. A cornice and parapet tops the building, with stacks incorporated within the party walls. The interior has not been inspected. Historic cast-iron railings are present to the area, along with corniced gate piers to the steps. The group value of the buildings lies in their well-preserved appearance and contribution to the streetscape.
