Description

This is a school house and caretakers house, dating from 1870, and later extended in the late 20th century. It is now divided into two separate houses. The building is rectangular in plan and constructed from a mix of red brick in English bond and patterned tile hanging, with a plain tile gabled roof. The exterior is two storeys high, with the first floor jettied out over the ground floor in two gables. It features a weathered and moulded plinth and coved eaves. There are two prominent chimneys with multiple hexagonal shafts, corniced heads, and tall clay louvred pots. The road-facing (south) elevation is symmetrical, with two gables, each featuring a four-light oriel window with a coved sill support and coved fascia at the head. These gables project, with moulded fascias and carved wooden brackets in the centre and at each end. Below each oriel window is a canted four-light bay window with leaded top-lights and a moulded brick sill. Hipped entrance porches are situated on either side of the gables, within a brick dado wall, and have turned wooden newels and balusters, with a decorative frieze above the balusters. Plain planked entrance doors are present. The house on the right (No. 2) has a late 20th-century extension set back, built in a similar style. The interior has not been inspected. Iron railings, with a central gate, run across the width of the front of the building. The railings are plain with rounded tops, and the gate posts feature fluted iron and moulded heads. The gate has group value.
