Description

The barn, cart shed, and outbuilding stand to the east of Kilbees Farmhouse. The structure dates primarily to the 16th century with alterations and extensions in the 17th century. It is constructed of timber frame, weatherboarded, and has a gabled roof covered with old tiles in four sections.

The building is single-storey in part, with a two-storey section. The single-storey section on the north side of the barn likely dates to the 17th century and originally housed a cartshed and outbuilding.

Inside, the cartshed and outbuilding each have two framed bays with a heavy queen post roof truss, clasped purlins, and braces. The barn itself comprises three framed bays, with a further, narrower bay on the south side containing a very old baulk stairway supported on two raking beams. The roof truss in the southernmost bay was altered, most likely in the 17th century; the tie beam was raised to create an arch-braced collar truss with butt purlins. A floor has been inserted on large beams, creating storage space above and a tall carriageway below. The original floorboards have been replaced with 20th-century boards.
