Large house, now 3 dwellings. Mid C18, altered and extended early C19 and mid C20. MATERIALS: painted render, slate hipped roof, behind parapet at front, exposed at rear. PLAN: long rectangular plan with former service extension on right. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys at front, 2 storeys with attics at rear. Several chimneys with dentilled, corniced heads and clay pots. Road front, north, plinth, moulded string at first floor, rusticated pilasters and plain parapet. 7-bays. Sash windows with glazing bars with bracketed sills and moulded architraves, shouldered on first and second floors. Projecting, enclosed entrance porch in third bay with quadrant sides, has paired pilasters and entablature; double door of 8 fielded panels and large brass rim lock behind. Blocked window above on first floor. INTERIOR: No.1 has large, square entrance hall, full height of house. Oval lantern above with 3-light, round headed windows and central acanthus rose. Cast iron, curved open well decorated staircase with closed string and balustrade continuous with landing. Scrolled tread ends, and guilloche moulding beneath. C18 marble chimneypiece in hall with fluted pilasters and frieze, urns carved on centrepiece and corner blocks. Similar fireplace in sitting room but with paterae on corner blocks and without centrepiece. (Victoria County History: VOL III: 86).
