Description

Hurley House is a large house set in landscaped grounds, dating from the early 18th century, with extensions added in the 19th century and around 1920. It features painted render and an old tile roof that is both hipped and gabled. The building has a rectangular plan with extensions on the north and east sides, and it stands two storeys high with an attic. A ridge chimney is located to the right of the centre. Architectural details include a projecting plinth, raised quoins, a first-floor string, a dentilled and moulded cornice, and a plain parapet. The windows are sash style with glazing bars.

On the garden front to the south, there are three small roof dormers and four bays. A French casement door is positioned on the left, while on the right are glazed two-leaf garden doors within a glazed gabled porch that has a steeply-pitched roof. The east end of the house has three bays, with the two side bays splayed to create a full-height canted bay. The entrance door is located on the north side within a one-storey flat-roofed extension.

Inside, the hall features contemporary panelling and a fireplace, along with a decorated plaster ceiling enriched with swags and floral ornamentation. The sitting room includes a fireplace with an eared architrave, bead and reel enrichment, an inset marble surround, and a moulded overmantel shelf adorned with leaf and rose ornament. Between the sitting room and the hall, there is a powder cupboard with a niche and scalloped shelving. The staircase is well-crafted, featuring a good framed newel with turned balusters, a moulded handrail, turned newels, and a panelled soffit.
