Description
The building is a barn that has been converted into a conference centre for Ye Olde Bell Hotel. It dates from the late 17th century and was altered and refurbished in 1985. The structure features a timber frame that is weatherboarded, topped with an old tile gabled roof. It has a rectangular plan consisting of five framed bays, with a central midstrey facing east. The original wagon entry has been preserved, featuring a large pair of ledged, braced, framed, and plank doors, along with a large glazed entry screen behind them. Inside, the timber frame is completely exposed, showcasing queen post roof trusses, clasped purlins, and jowled posts. To the west, there is a narrow one-storey link block from the 20th century that connects to a larger 20th-century extension, which is of no special interest.
