Description
Kilbees Farmhouse is a large house that originated as a farmhouse in the 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early 20th century and further changes in the late 20th century. The building features a combination of timber framing with brick infill and painted roughcast, topped with an old tile roof. The central section consists of three framed bays, flanked by two crosswings, each with two framed bays, and there is a two-bay extension at the rear of the southern crosswing. Additionally, there is an outshot and a stair turret of one framed bay at the back of the central section.
The exterior is two storeys high and includes several large chimneys with corniced heads and clay pots. The entrance front, facing east, is painted roughcast with false timbering and has irregular fenestration. The central section has a three-bay layout, with a single bay gable on either side, and a 20th-century lean-to entrance porch supported by braced wooden posts.
Inside, the farmhouse has been significantly altered, but much of the timber frame is visible and exposed, with some new timbers added in the late 20th century. The first floor is now open, showcasing the exposed roof timbers.
