Description
The Old School and School House, including the front boundary wall and railings, is a former school and school house that has been converted into one house. It dates from around 1870 and features rough ashlar stone walls with ashlar dressings and a tiled roof, which includes some fish-scale tiling. The building is two storeys high and is designed in a simple Gothic Revival style.
The original school house, located on the right, has a gabled projection at its right end. This section includes one casement window with glazing bars on each floor and a cross-shaped vent above the upper window. To the left of the gable, there is a ledged door with ornamental iron hinges set in a shouldered arched opening. The ground floor has another casement window with glazing bars, while a similar casement is found on the first floor beneath a gabled dormer.
At the left end is the original schoolroom, which features a projecting gable that contains a triple lancet window with hoodmoulds and foliated stops. To the left of this is a gabled porch, which has a ledged door in a pointed arched opening, with a scroll above it inscribed "In Memoriam." There is also a wing to the left of this porch, which runs parallel to the main range and includes a triple lancet window in its end gable wall.
The property is enclosed by a stone front boundary wall, which has chamfered square piers topped with stepped pyramidal caps, and is complemented by simple iron railings.
