Description
A group of four cottages, probably dating from the early 19th century, located on South Street in Corfe Castle. Numbers 2, 3, and 4 form a terrace, while number 1 is set back in a projecting rear wing. The cottages are constructed with rubble stone walls and have stone slate roofs. Number 1 has a brick stack at the end, featuring diagonally set shafts with oversailing caps. The building has a mix of one-storey and one-and-a-half-storey sections. Number 1’s higher section includes a part-glazed door with cast iron lattice glazing, a casement window with similar detailing, and an attic dormer with a casement window. The lower section to the right has a single casement window. Number 2, at the left end of the terrace, also has a brick stack with diagonally set shafts and oversailing caps. This cottage features a flush panel door leading up a flight of stone steps, two casement windows with cast iron lattice glazing under stone lintels, and two coped gabled attic dormers with matching casements. Number 3 has a ledged door under a stone lintol, a casement window with cast iron lattice glazing, another with glazing bars, and two coped gabled attic dormers with matching casements. Number 4 features a part-glazed panelled door under a stone lintol, two casement windows with glazing bars under stone lintels, and two coped gabled attic dormers with similar casements. A small lean-to extension, built in matching materials, is located at the right end.
