Description

Old Farm Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the mid-16th century, with extensions added in the 17th and 18th centuries, and further alterations and extensions made in the late 20th century.

The building features a mix of materials, including part timber frame with painted render infill, painted render, painted brick, and an old tiled gabled roof with varying heights, including a catslide over a pent roof at the rear. The layout consists of a two-cell, baffle entry plan with two framed bays, a pent extension at the rear, and an additional extension on the right end.

The exterior is two storeys high and includes two chimneys, one topped with a clay pot. The 18th-century sash windows have glazing bars, while the 20th-century leaded casement windows are also present. The entrance front, facing south, features an irregular left section with exposed timber framing. There is a single two-light window and a four-light window on the first floor, with two two-light windows on the ground floor flanking a 20th-century entrance door beneath a tiled lean-to open porch. The right side has a single bay extension with sash windows and dentilled eaves.

Inside, the timber frame is exposed, showcasing jowled posts and arch braces. The joists in the sitting room are stop-chamfered with shield stops, while those in the second sitting room are plain.
