Description
Handpost Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame with brick infill, and the left gable end is covered in painted render. It has an old tile gabled roof.
The farmhouse has a rectangular baffle entry plan consisting of three framed bays and one narrow bay that contains the entry and chimney, with an extension at the rear. It stands two storeys tall and has one chimney with clay pots. The southeast entrance front is irregular, with 20th-century leaded casement windows. The first floor has a mix of 3:1:2:2-light windows of different sizes, while the ground floor features 2:1:2:2-light windows of varying sizes. A 20th-century wooden door is located between the second and third windows.
Inside, much of the timber frame is exposed on the first floor. The roof features a queen post design with straight braces and clasped purlins. The principal beams on the ground floor are chamfered and have shield stops.
