Description
Oxford Cottage Farmhouse is a hall house, originally dating to the late 15th century, with significant extensions in the early 19th century and further alterations and extensions in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with some sections retaining timber framing. The roof is hipped and gabled, covered in old tiles.
The house has a rectangular plan of two framed bays, with extensions to the right and at the rear. The exterior features 20th-century casement and sash windows with glazing bars, the ground-floor windows having segmental brick arched heads. The right-hand extension has brick dentilled eaves. Original chimneys include a cut-down ridge stack on the right and one at the rear. The south-east front is irregular. The left-hand section has two 2-light windows on the first floor, with a gabled dormer flush with the wall and breaking the eaves. The ground floor has a 3-light and a 2-light window, with French casements and side lights set in an enlarged opening. A hipped, enclosed lean-to entrance porch with a plain door is on the left; the gable above shows visible roof framing. The taller right-hand section has a single 2-light window on the first floor and two sash windows on the ground floor.
Internally, some of the original timber frame is visible, including curved wind braces. There is also a redundant crown post roof.
