Description

Wall House is a hall house, dating from the mid to late 15th century, which has undergone alterations and extensions in the 20th century. Originally two framed bays, it now incorporates a crosswing of two framed bays and a small extension to the right. The construction is timber frame with brick infill, topped with an old tile roof, cross-gabled to the right.

The west-facing front has a single bay gable on the right, featuring a three-light window. A two-bay section occupies the left side, displaying three-light windows at ground-floor level and two gabled dormers above, flush with the front and breaking the eaves. A two-storey extension, set back to the right, contains a 20th-century entrance door. A large chimney on the left has been rebuilt. Newer four-pane casement windows are present throughout.

Inside, the timber frame is exposed, along with a redundant crown post roof supported by queen posts, large curved windbraces, and clasped purlins. The principal bedroom reveals holes at the feet of rafters, while jowled posts with curved knee braces are also visible. Some ground floor ceiling joists are chamfered without stops.
