Description

The Old Forge Cottage is a house and barn, now functioning as a large house with the barn used for storage. It dates from the late 16th century to the 17th century and has undergone significant alterations and extensions in the 20th century. The building features a mix of materials, including part brick in Flemish bond, part timber frame with brick infill, and part timber frame encased in brick. The roofs are covered with old tiles and vary in height, with the barn having a half-hipped old tile roof.

The structure is arranged in an L-plan, with the barn on the left consisting of three framed bays, now connected to the house which includes a 17th-century section. The exterior has a combination of single storey, one and a half storeys, and two storeys, and is adorned with four chimneys. The road-facing side, which is southeast, has an irregular layout with scattered windows. The barn on the left showcases exposed timber framing set on a high brick plinth.

The linking section features two bays with two four-light dormers that are flush with the wall and break the eaves. The entrance has a gabled hood that is now glazed. To the right, there is a single bay section, followed by a taller two-bay section that includes a four-light window and a two-light window on the first floor. Below this, there is a half-glazed entrance door with a gabled hood, flanked by two-light windows. Further to the right, there is a three-bay projection with a coped gable, which has two small single-light windows on each floor. The interior has not been inspected.
