Description
The Church of St Michael is a parish church built in 1853 by the architect George Edmund Street, with enlargements made by Woodman in the 1860s and a porch added in 1887. It is constructed from coursed brown Bargate Stone rubble with Bath Stone dressings, topped with an old tile roof featuring coped gables and shingles on the spire.
Designed in the early English style, the church includes lancet windows and has a layout comprising a nave, north and south aisles, north and south chapels, a north-west porch, and a broached spire. Inside, the nave and chancel feature a braced collar roof, and there are four-bay pointed arched arcades leading to the aisles. A notable interior feature is a large painting of the twelve apostles located on the chancel arch.
