Description
The Barn at Groves Farm is a building that dates back to the 17th century, was refaced in the 19th century, and underwent alterations in the late 20th century. It is constructed of brick featuring a diaper pattern in English bond, with a half-hipped roof covered in interlocking concrete tiles.
The barn has a rectangular plan and consists of four bays, with a hipped midstrey and an aisle on the south side. The former wagon doors on the north side have been replaced by a large window. The exterior includes casement leaded windows, with the north-east road front being irregular. There are two 2-light windows on the left, a single large 8-light window in the center that includes mullions and a transom, and one 3-light window to the right.
Inside, the timber roof framing is exposed, showcasing arched tie beams and braces, queen post trusses with reduced principals, clasped purlins, and windbraces. A false brick fireplace and flue have been inserted, extending up to the roof level.
