Description
Keephatch Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the mid-16th century and was extended and re-fronted in the 18th century. The building features a combination of timber framing with painted brick and plaster infill, as well as sections of brick, topped with an old tile gabled roof. It has a T-plan layout with three framed bays, gables on the north, east, and south sides, and an extension on the southwest with a long pent roof on the northeast. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics and has a large central chimney, along with another tall stack on the north side.
The southwest front showcases the 18th-century re-fronting and former entrance. This facade is made of brick with some vitreous headers, a parapet, and metal coping, featuring three bays. It includes three-light windows with glazing bars and a small sash in the centre light, all set under segmental brick arches. There is a 20th-century half-glazed garden door in the centre, which has a planked, hinged outer leaf, and is topped by a flat, cantilevered hood with a moulded cornice.
On the northwest front, there is a brick gable return to the 18th-century extension on the right, featuring a Yorkshire sash with glazing bars on the first floor and a small four-light casement at ground level on the left. To the left, the timber-framed section has a long pent roof. There are two small 19th-century casements on the first floor and a part-glazed 20th-century entrance door below a two-light leaded casement on the ground floor to the left.
Inside, most of the timber frame is exposed. The kitchen, located at the rear and part of an inglenook fireplace facing into the sitting room, contains an old washing copper and a bread oven.
