Description
Keeper's Cottage is a cottage dating from the mid-16th century, with extensions from the 18th century and mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and an old tiled gabled roof. The building has a lobby entrance in an L-plan layout, consisting of three framed bays and a small extension on the north side. It is two storeys tall, with an old chimney that has been cut down and rebuilt in the 20th century, located on the ridge to the left of the center.
The south front is from the 19th century and has a two-light window arrangement that is scattered within the timber frame. The ground floor lacks the timber frame and is underbuilt in painted brick. There is a 19th-century planked entrance door to the left of the center, which is topped with a small gabled tile hood and features carved bargeboards.
Inside, most of the frame is exposed, showcasing jowled posts, large plain joists, and large principal beams that have chamfers and stepped stops. There are two shutter grooves on the north side that indicate former window openings, and an inglenook chimney is present. The roof structure includes queen posts with clasped purlins.
