Description
This is a cast iron milestone located opposite Islay Gardens, dating from around 1834. It has a triangular shape with an arched top that is inscribed with "LONDON 11." Below this, it reads "HESTON PARISH." The sides of the milestone feature the inscriptions "STAINES 6" and "HOUNSLOW 1." This milestone is part of a series that were placed along the London to Staines road, which is one of the main historic routes into London. A similar milestone located opposite Star Road in Hounslow displays the founders' mark of RU & J Barrett, London, from the same year.
