Description
Baber Bridge, located on Staines Road, is a road bridge built in 1798 by the County of Middlesex. It is constructed of pink-grey stock brick, with lower courses made of yellow sandstone. The coping on the parapet and the date-stone are made of Portland stone. The bridge features a single arch, with the inner arch and the lower part of the south elevation rendered.
Historically, a timber bridge known as the Beaver or Baber Bridge is recorded as early as the late 13th century. The current structure was rebuilt in 1798 after the original was found to be unsafe. Baber Bridge carries the road from Hounslow to Staines and is a notable example from the significant period of road improvements.
