Description
These are two terraced houses, numbers 9 and 11 Circus Street, dating from the second quarter of the 19th century. They are two storeys with an attic and basement, featuring three windows each. The houses have been rebuilt in the attic, which has a low, pedimented gable containing a segment-arched, two-light window. The exterior is primarily yellow stock brick with a stuccoed basement. The roof is slate, with eaves soffits visible on the Prior Street return. The first-floor centre window of the main facade has been blocked. Gauged brick arches frame all the windows and doorways. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, flat-headed except for the attic window. A four-step approach leads to a four-panel door, surmounted by a patterned fanlight under a round arch supported by impost blocks. The right-hand return is blank, except for a doorway leading to number 11, which is similar to number 9, but with a plain fanlight. Wrought iron handrails and area railings are present on both sides of the property. Numbers 1 to 11 Circus Street (odd numbers) are considered to form a notable group.
