Description
61 Royal Hill is a house dating from the 1830s and 1840s, built on an angled corner where Royal Hill meets Royal Place. The building has an irregular shape. The corner front faces two stories and has two windows. A blank return wall on the left side connects to Royal Place, broken by two large panels. The entrance is located on the right side, accessed through an outer wall. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, covered in slate, with wide, bracketed eaves soffits. The walls are stuccoed. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars. The front door is a four-panel design, set within an entablature surround complete with a cornice and blocking course.
The south-western return side of the house has five windows, with all but windows numbered 3 and 5 on the first floor blocked. A central double door is accompanied by a fanlight with margin lights. To the right of this door are two sash windows with glazing bars. The left wall is blank. A full-width loggia with a swept lead roof and plain wood posts is present.
Internally, one original marble fireplace remains. The staircase features a ramped handrail in a square well.
