Description

80 and 82 Royal Hill are two adjacent properties. Number 80 is a house dating to circa 1700, which was refronted in the early 19th century. It is three storeys high and has one window. The exterior is stuccoed and features a frieze, cornice, and parapet. The first and second floor windows are three-light sashes with some glazing bars. They have reeded pilaster mullions, and each light is topped with an ogee-shaped Gothic head terminating in a small square plinth which may have held a finial. The centre lights are taller and wider, creating a Venetian effect. A modern shop front was added to the ground floor in the mid-19th century. Number 82 is an early 19th century facade applied to an early 18th century house. It is three storeys high with a basement and has a steeply pitched pantiled roof. The stuccoed front has a parapet and a first-floor band. The windows are slightly recessed within wooden architraves. The second floor has early 19th century casements, while the first floor has replaced sashes and the ground floor retains early 19th century sashes. The ground floor windows have moulded architraves and console bracketed cornices. The door consists of three beaded panels, a cornice head, and a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. The doorcase features sunk panelled pilasters, bracketed cornices, and an open pediment. Cast iron area railings with foliated spearhead standards are also present.
