Description
The Morden Arms Public House is a mid-19th century, three-storey building located at the corner of Brand Street. It features three windows on each side and one blank window in a recessed, rounded corner section. The exterior is constructed of multicoloured stock brick with stucco on the ground and first floors. Notable architectural details include a stuccoed frieze, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. The building has a balustraded parapet with rounded angle panels inscribed with "The Morden Arms," and a segmental pediment adorned with acanthus moulding in the tympanum above.
The parapet includes panels with small pediments halfway along the sides, and end panels topped with urn finials. The second-floor windows are round-arched, featuring cable moulding within the moulded architrave and keystones. The middle window on Circus Street is blocked. There is a cill string, and the first-floor windows have moulded architraves, with the centre windows shouldered under swell friezes that include fluting and paterae. Above these, there is a dentil cornice and segmental pediment. The side first-floor windows have friezes with swags beneath the dentil cornice and pediment. The first-floor cills rest on a moulded and dentilled cornice of the ground floor, which is divided by paired, panelled, quasi-Corinthian pilasters. The building also features two- and three-light leaded windows with cast iron top grilles and moulded bands with flutes and paterae below, along with half-glazed doors.
