Description

This is a terrace of six houses, numbered 1 to 7, built between 1840 and 1850 on Circus Street. The houses are each three storeys high with a basement, and feature two windows on each front elevation. They are constructed of yellow stock brick with a stucco frieze decorated with roses. A cornice and blocking course conceal the roofline. The ground floor and basement areas are stuccoed up to the level of the first floor window sills. The first and second floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, although those in numbers 3 and 5 have been replaced. Ground floor sash windows have vertical glazing bars and are topped with console bracketed cornices. The doorways are round-headed, set within round arched recesses with impost blocks. There are three or four steps leading up to the doors, which are mostly four-panel doors, except for number 5, which has a modern six-panel door. Numbers 5 and 7 both feature patterned fanlights above the doorways. The terrace has plain wrought iron area railings and decorative cast iron handrails. Numbers 1 to 11 collectively form a group.
