Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of six houses, numbered 11 to 17, on Royal Place. Each house is three storeys high with a recessed basement, and has two windows. The houses are built of multicoloured stock brick, with a stucco frieze, cornice and parapet. Slightly projecting bays are located at the flanks and in the centre of the terrace. A stuccoed cill band runs across the first floor, and the basement is also stuccoed. The recessed sash windows have glazing bars, and are topped by flat brick arches with gauged brick. The ground floor windows are set within rectangular recesses. The doorways have gauged round brick arches, with six-panel doors, cornice heads, and plain fanlights. The fanlights are blocked in numbers 15 and 16. Number 17 has an entrance on the return side, facing Royal Hill. The terrace is fronted by cast iron area railings with spearheads. Numbers 11 to 17 form a group of architectural importance.
