Description

This is a row of villas dating from the second quarter of the 19th century. The properties are each two storeys high with a basement, and each originally had three windows. They have hipped roofs with a gently sloping slate covering and eaves soffits. The walls are constructed of multi-coloured stock brick. The sash windows have glazing bars, with flat arches on the first floor and basement level, and round-headed arches on the ground floor. Door openings also have round arches, and the ground floor doors and windows are recessed in arched bays. The doorways are topped with cornices and fanlights, accessed by six steps with cast iron or wrought iron handrails. Number 2 has a gabled hood supported by cast iron. Number 4 features a projecting porch, which has subsequently been enclosed. Numbers 6 and 8 have six-panel doors with decorative fanlights. Numbers 6, 8, 10, and 12 also have fluted pilasters at their doorways. Number 16 has had its ground floor rebuilt around 1900, with two sash windows either side of a gabled central porch. Numbers 14, 16, 18, and 20 have six-panel doors. The properties, taken together with numbers 32 and 34, form a cohesive group.
