Description

This is an early 19th century pair of large houses, numbers 15 and 16 St German's Place, forming a block of flats. The houses are four storeys high with a basement, and each has four windows. They are constructed of multicoloured stock brick, with stucco detailing, including a frieze, cornice, and blocking course at the third-floor and roof levels. The roof is hidden. Horizontal bands run along the window sill levels of the first and second floors.

A projecting, arcaded four-bay section dominates the centre of the ground floor, recessed on the central axis and with a stuccoed spring string resting on a stuccoed basement plinth. Gauged brick arches frame the renewed sash windows, which are round-headed in the four central ground-floor bays and flat elsewhere, all with glazing bars. Prostyle-Doric porches are positioned in the penultimate bays. The left-hand entrance has been altered to a balcony with cast-iron railings and a French window. The right-hand entrance is accessed by five steps and features a renewed six-panel door, surmounted by cornice heads and semicircular fanlights.

Numbers 9 to 16 St German’s Place are grouped together.
