Description

Colonnade House, dating to circa 1795, with later additions and alterations, is attributed to Michael Searles. It comprises a central three-storey block with a basement, featuring three windows, and slightly-set-back side wings of two storeys and a basement, each with two windows. The building is constructed of multicoloured stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor. The central block has a stone mutule cornice and blocking course, while the side wings have parapets. The first floor of the centre block features an arcade with an impost string. The windows are recessed and have replaced sash windows with glazing bars on the first and second floors. The ground floor has round-arched sash windows with glazing bars and a later half-glazed central double door with a patterned radial fanlight. A Doric colonnade, complete with enriched columns, a triglyph frieze, and mutule cornices, extends across the front, with six steps at each end. A terrace and an upper balcony are formed by the colonnade, both enclosed by wrought iron railings. Bowed wrought iron lampholders are positioned above the steps.
