Description
The Girls' Public Day School Trust School, built in 1879-80 by E R Robson, is a two-storey building with a basement, featuring eight windows and designed in the Queen Anne style. It has a fairly high-pitched, hipped tiled roof, which is altered by three wide modern dormers. The exterior is made of multicoloured stock brick with red brick dressings, including quoins, window jambs, aprons, and gauged flat brick arches, accented by white keystones.
There are five steps leading up to the central double door, which is flanked by sidelights and topped by a large rectangular fanlight with margin lights. The stone doorcase is supported by attached quasi-Ionic columns that hold up an entablature with a high open pediment. This pediment features a cartouche with an urn and cresset, along with an inscription that reads: "Opened by HRH Princess Louise January 17 1880. Girls Public Day School Company Limited." The property is also enclosed by cast iron hand and area railings.
