The lamp post adjacent to 14 Great College Street is a gas street light that is believed to date from the late 19th century, featuring a Brompton-type column with a later extension shaft and a Rochester-type lantern likely installed around 1930.

The lamp post is made of cast iron, and it has a glazed lantern constructed from iron, spun copper, and enamelled steel. The column tapers and is adorned with acanthus leaves at both the base and top. It has a square base with an oval plaque numbered 6515. The lantern includes a circular drum and rain-shield made of copper, positioned above an inverted six-mantle burner enclosed in teardrop-shaped glass, which has a drainage hole at its base and an enamelled steel reflector. This entire assembly is held in place by an iron cradle with two curved uprights that extend from the clock box, which still display much of their original decorative ironwork scrolls typical of inter-war Rochester lanterns.
