Description

No. 7 Poland Street is a terrace house built around 1706, with some alterations. The building is constructed of brown brick, with a stuccoed ground floor, and it stands four storeys high with a basement. It is two windows wide. The ground floor features a doorway on the left, which has an archivolt arch and a panelled frame with iron head stops, a panelled door, and a semicircular fanlight, reflecting an early 19th-century alteration. There is a single recessed sash window on the ground floor without glazing bars. The upper floors have recessed sash windows, also without glazing bars, set under flat gauged arches. The building has a parapet with coping, and wrought iron area railings topped with pineapple finials. Inside, there are several original features, including a fielded panel passage-hall with a dado and a pilastered opening to the staircase. The staircase has an open carved string and three twisted balusters per tread, and the compartment walls are lined with fielded panels. The ground and first-floor rooms retain significant elements of panelling with box cornices.
