Description

TQ 2981 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER POLAND STREET (east side) 57/54 No.7 5.2.70 - II Terrace house. c.1706, altered. Brown brick, stuccoed ground floor. 4 storeys and basement. 2 windows wide. Ground floor has doorway to left: archivolt arch and panelled frame with iron head stops, panelled door and semicircular fanlight - an early C19 alteration; single recessed sash window to ground floor, no glazing bars. Upper floors have recessed sashes without glazing bars under flat gauged arches. Parapet with coping. Wrought iron area railings have pineapple finials. Interior retains a number of good original features including fielded panel passage-hall with dado and pilastered opening to staircase which has open carved string and 3 twisted balusters per tread, the compartment walls lined with fielded panels, ground and 1st floor rooms retain substantial elements of panelling with box cornices etc. Survey of London: vol.XXXI.
